Asylum and Humanitarian Protection

Asylum means security and protection in both physical and legal manners. In 1951, the United Nations passed a resolution in favour of refugees to support them as well as to settle them. The policy was designed to settle the refugees and prevent sending them back to their home countries where they will face torture, false imprisonment or even death on the basis of their race, religion, nationality or political views. Successful applicants will be given leave to remain in the UK. Successful applicants may qualify for naturalisation (British citizenship) after completing 5 years of continuous residence in the UK subject to the relevant Immigration Law.
